Dynamic Electricity Tariffs and Balcony Batteries: How to Save Smartly in 2026

Dynamic Electricity Tariffs and Balcony Storage: How to Really Save in 2026

What sounds like a complicated financial product is actually quite simple in practice: Dynamic electricity tariffs adjust the electricity price hourly to the current market price. With modern balcony storage, you can take advantage of these price fluctuations.

What are dynamic electricity tariffs?

Providers like Tibber, aWATTar, and Octopus Energy offer dynamic electricity tariffs in Germany. The price per kilowatt-hour changes hourly and is based on the EPEX Spot market price. On windy nights, the price can drop to 5 to 10 cents – sometimes even becoming negative!

The Strategy: Charge Cheaply, Save Expensively

  1. Charge cheaply: Have your balcony storage buy electricity from the grid between 2 and 6 AM when the price is minimal.
  2. Discharge in the evening: When electricity prices rise in the afternoon, your storage supplies energy from the cheaply purchased reserve.
  3. Solar in between: During the day, your balcony power plant charges the storage for free with solar energy.

Suitable Balcony Storage for Dynamic Tariffs

  • Zendure Hyper 2000: excellent scheduling, grid charging as standard
  • Zendure SolarFlow 800 Pro: also with grid charging
  • Anker Solarbank 3 E2700 Pro: grid charging possible via Smart Plug
  • Jackery SolarVault 3 Pro: scheduling in the app

Practical Example: How Much Can You Really Save?

With Tibber tariff, daily average 32 ct/kWh and night tariff 12 ct/kWh, storage 2.7 kWh: Cheap charging costs €0.32, using these 2.7 kWh instead of grid electricity saves €0.86. Savings per cycle: €0.54, per year approx. €162 – in addition to normal solar savings!
